Our branch has been fundraising for over 65 years. We are a friendly group, and love delivering innovative events which are fun and to which people come along to enjoy themselves and support the RNLI. At our events we impart information about about the wonderful work of the RNLI in a lighthearted and interesting way. At our 200 celebration event we incorporated a fashion show. Our volunteers were the models and were escorted on the catwalk by a lifeboat crew member in full kit!

In August 1824 a group of local gentlemen formed the 'Bideford Branch Association' and appealed to the Institution for one of the 12 lifeboats they had ordered to be stationed at Appledore. On 28 February 1825 the No I RNLI commissioned lifeboat ' The Volunteer' arrived at Appledore. We are proud to continue the tradition of volunteering to Save Lives at Sea.

Everyone connected with Blyth RNLI was invited down to the lifeboat station this evening to take part in the One Moment One Crew event. Having walked the short distance to Ridley Park where we took our D class inshore lifeboat, we gathered around the flower bed that Blyth Town Council had prepared to celebrate the RNLI's 200th anniversary. The moment was then captured. We all then returned to the lifeboat station to have pizzas. We hope that everyone else taking part this evening had fun too.

As it was our usual training evening this evening, meaning that our shore and boat crews would be at the boathouse anyway, we decided to invite all other volunteers too and have a photo all taken together as that is not something we've ever been able to achieve before. Just as we were getting into position, however, the pagers went off and we launched both boats. Out photo is thus everyone without the two boat crews on the shout (we took a photo of them when they got back!).

One of my fondest RNLI memories would be one of the first shouts I was on. A man had fallen in the harbour between a vessel and the pier late at night, we were called to the scene shortly after. I entered the water with fellow crewmate and friend Jason Flett, we recovered the casualty to the ALB and rendered cas care before he was passed into the care of the Scottish Ambulance Service. I met the man on the vessel I happened to be working on the following day, he was very grateful of the RNLI.

The RNLI had experimented with various tractors and half-tracks since 1920 and Newbiggin was one of the last Stations to receive this new innovation. The base power transmission unit was manufactured by Case and classed as an ‘LA’ Model. Now restored to its former glory.

Penlee Lifeboat crew

There has been a lifeboat in Mount’s Bay for two hundred years, firstly at Penzance, then Mousehole and now at Newlyn. We have decided to picture Coxswain Patch Harvey and his crew of volunteers of 2024 who continue the life saving operations carried out by the men and women of Penlee’s past. Not least of course those brave lifeboatmen who gave their lives in the tragic loss of the Solomon Browne.

Stromness RNLI

Our memory is our 200th Parade we had in Stromness. We had Stromness, Thurso, wick, kirkwall and Kincardine (Canada)Pipebands playing along with Stromness crew, Thurso crew, Wick Crew, Kirkwall Crew and Longhope crew walking behind a band each. They all walked through the street of Stromness starting from the first lifeboat Station past the red sged to the most recent station. The street of Stromness was packed with people. The crews ended the parade by singing 'Home from the Sea'.

The RNLI's Creative Services Team paused their Olympic-standard game of rounders at Poole Park to celebrate the charity's 200-year innings. Here's to everyone who has helped save lives with the RNLI!
