Today on 1-8-24 at 18:24 the Helvick Head RNLI crew, volunteers, and families gathered at the Helvick Head RNLI lifeboat station in glorious sunshine to celebrate the 200th anniversary of the RNLI. Incredibly, a call came in at 18:20, and the Robert Armstrong was swiftly launched with Alan Kelly at the helm and crew members Shane Walsh, Paidai Breathnach, and Catherine Reeves to attend the incident. The burgers were still hot off the BBQ when they returned shortly after. #RNLI200 #RNLIHELVICK

This year George Craig is celebrating not only the 200th Anniversary of the RNLI, but also his 20 year service medal. Joining Stonehaven RNLI in 1973, he volunteered until the station closed in 1984. Then volunteered again when it was re-established in 2013. George has volunteered as shore and boat crew, tractor driver and launch authority. Thank you George.

What a fantastic 200th year so far! Moved into a new Lifeboat Station on 1st March, bigger Shop, new VER and more public spot! It was opened by Mark Dowie as his last public event (HRH couldn't come due to election). A month later, a visit by HRH Duke of Kent and Peter Sparkes! It’s been so busy this year we didn’t manage to get everyone together again last night so have taken the liberty to present photo of HRH and Peter Sparkes and the station community on the day of HRH’s visit on the 24th..

Newcastle RNLI, Northern Ireland

Brendan Rooney is the longest serving volunteer crew member at Newcastle having been there, for 30 years, in a variety of roles, including all-weather lifeboat crew, inshore lifeboat crew, casualty carer and currently working toward becoming a navigator. Emmy Torrens joined the volunteer crew in Newcastle at the start of 2024 and is currently inshore lifeboat crew. Emmy previously was an RNLI lifeguard at Murlough, Tyrella and Cranfiled beaches in the 2023 season.

President of Tramore RNLI Frank Nolan captured the significance of the moment in a speech where he remembered all those who have gone before us and led the way in saving lives at sea.

RNLI Portishead, South West Region

1.8.24 was marked at Portishead with a very poignant remembrance service, timing the 2 mins silence to fall at 18:24. The idea was to honour those lost over the last 200 years from across our whole charity and also remembering our local volunteers who have passed and supported our charity over our 28 year history. This included all of our volunteers from when we operated as an independent rescue service. Emotional, poignant and humbling...

St. Bees lifeboat station, Cumbria.

To celebrate the RNLI 200 anniversary the volunteers at St Bees came together for a short service in St Bees Priory. They remembered RNLI volunteers past and present. There was a poignant sermon from the Rural Dean who also paid tribute to his Uncle Frederick who drowned while on service with the RNLI in the 1962 Seaham disaster. At 18:24 a minutes silence was held, followed by the ringing of the church bells. After the service the crew gathered at the local pub for a pub quiz.

We have been lucky to help create many of the significant RNLI moments for the 200th. Westminster Abbey, Poole Lifeboat Festival and the Buckingham Palace Garden Party and will all cherish the memories being part of an amazing "ONE CREW".

Whilst the RNLI celebrates 200 years of service, Whitstable Lifeboat Station marks 61 years in service. We join in thanking all the volunteers and staff around the UK for their dedication, selflessness and time. Fittingly, our One Crew moment was following the successful pass out of one of our newest Tier 1 ILB crew members.

Bundoran Lifeboat, Ireland

Today our crew gathered at the station with friends and family to celebrate RNLI 200. This year is special for us as we mark 50 years of lifeboat service in Bundoran, 30 years with the RNLI, and 20 years of a community boat before that. Joe McNulty, seen in the photo, is an original member still volunteering today, alongside his son, daughter, and son-in-law. We are proud to be part of the RNLI family in Bundoran and across all regions, continuing our mission to save lives at sea.

I've worked for the RNLI for 17 years. All of my three children have worked for the RNLI too. We arrived home from living abroad with just our suitcases and finding a job at the RNLI 'saved' us as a family. It helped me find a place to live and get my children into local schools. My RNLI highlights are working for the Chief Executive, helping to set up a brand new All-weather Lifeboat Centre and now, developing Engineering policies to keep our people safe and the RNLI compliant.
